Children's Ministry

“Jesus loved the little children,” the old children’s song goes. We take children’s ministry seriously at First Brethren Church. All of our children’s workers have gone through the process of fingerprinting and criminal background checks for the safety of our children and the workers themselves.

Children can expect a range of games, crafts, visual aids, their own personalized worship time, and discipleship on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights during our children’s meeting times. Each child is welcomed and loved by children’s workers who are gifted and talented in working with children.

Sunday Morning Opportunities

Nursery I

During both our Sunday school hour (9:30 - 10:15) and during our church hour (begins at 10:30) we have dedicated volunteers to take care of your infant to two year old in the back of our sanctuary.  We encourage new parents to take advantage of this service so they can also get plugged into a Sunday school class or get some time to just focus on God during the church hour.

Nursery II

For your toddler (age 2 - 4), we have well-equipped volunteers during both the Sunday school and church segments of Sunday morning.  These volunteers do their best at giving your child the very beginnings of God's word.  While often simple in form such as showing the ever-popular Veggie Tales cartoons or simply caring for your child with the love of Christ, these saints volunteer their time faithfully so you can better grow in our adult Sunday schools and worship time.

Kidz 1

Kidz 1 is for children who are pre-k and kindergarten age.  As with our Nursery I & II, opportunites for your children to attend during both Sunday school and church time is available for you to take advange of.  We begin to teach Bible stories in their most basic form and even have an incentive program we call "Firm Foundation," which encourages your children to attend regularly and begin memorizing scripture.  Separate curriculum is prepared and taught during the Sunday school and Church time.

Kidz 2

Kidz 2 is our term for children who are in 1st through 5th grade in school.  Curriculum is our highest priority for this group.  As reading ability greatly increases with this age group, we attempt to utilize that skill to help your children discover biblical truths on their own.  As your child enters into Kidz 2, it is our privelege to present them with their very own Bible.  The Firm Foundation incentive program also applies to this group with challenges such as attendance, bringing Bibles each week, and memorizing scripture.  Separate curriculum is prepared and taught during the Sunday school and church time for Kidz 2.

Summer Church Camp

Each summer our students are given the opportunity to spend a week at Camp Shipshewana in Shipshewana, IN. There are a range of different camps available for our students. The First Brethren Church offers a 50% scholarship to those who would like it to help with the cost of church camp. Camp Shipshewana also offers scholarships to new campers, friends of campers, a multi-camp discount ($100 off if you attend more than one camp during the summer), and more.
