Service Ops
We believe that if a person has been saved by grace, it's not anything they have done to deserve it or earn it (Eph. 2:8-9) Jesus has freely given us our salvation because of his great love for us. But we know that if we have been saved by grace in Christ Jesus, then there is a reason for us to be saved. We believe that we have been saved from something for something. If Ephesians 2:8-9 is true for us, then we must also believe that Ephesians 2:10 is true as well.
"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." (Ephesians 2:10)
As a whole church, we look for different ways for each person to begin doing those things that God created us to do. We call these "Service Ops," short for Service Opportunities. We have Youth Ops, Kidz Ops, and Service Ops for adults. We believe that a person cannot grow spiritually unless they are serving God in the way God has created them to serve, so we make every effort to help people find their call to service and mission.
It's been catching on. As part of our vision statement to see our community transformed (basically, we want to make a difference in our community) our church has begun to reach out to those in need. Finding several within our Body with gifts of service and talents for fixing and building things, we've been doing lots more in the areas of service and missions. From mowing the church lawn, to working on repair projects at people's houses, to work days at other churches, helping out at the Brethren Retreat Center, as well as relief work for Hurricane Katrina victims in Gulfport, MS and Galveston, TX, and service projects at Riverside Christian School in Kentucky, we're using our gifts and talents to worship the Lord in hands-on sorts of ways-and we're having lots of fun doing it!
