How We Started

Our Story

With over a century of history in Bryan, First Brethren Church has been a quiet force for good—welcoming generations, weathering change, and standing firm in faith. Today, we continue that legacy by opening our doors to new beginnings, honest conversations, and Christ-centered transformation.

WELCOME HOME

In a world filled with noise, uncertainty, and shifting values, we come together to pursue God because He is our constant — our source of truth, peace, and purpose.

Gathering as a church isn’t just tradition; it’s a declaration that we believe in something greater than ourselves.

We seek His presence to be renewed, His Word to be grounded, and His Spirit to be guided. In community, we find strength.

First Brethren Distinctives

What We Believe About Baptism.

At First Brethren Church, we practice baptism by Triune Immersion — a meaningful, symbolic act that reflects our faith in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  Here’s what that means, simply:  • Three immersions in water — one for each person of the Trinity.

• It’s not just a ritual. It’s a declaration: I belong to Jesus. I trust God’s grace. I’m ready to walk in new life.

• We baptize believers — people who’ve made a personal decision to follow Christ.

• It’s done gently, respectfully, and with joy. Whether in a church tank or a farm pond, it’s a moment of transformation.

Leadership at First Brethren Church

Leadership at First Brethren Church isn’t about titles — it’s about trust, character, and a heart for Christ. We believe that those who guide our church should reflect the love of Jesus in both word and action.

Core Criteria for Leadership
Personal Faith
Leaders must have a clear, personal relationship with Jesus Christ and live out their faith daily.

Biblical Integrity
We look for individuals who align with Scripture in their beliefs, decisions, and lifestyle — not perfection, but consistency and humility.

Servant’s Heart
Leadership here means serving others. We value those who lead by example, lift others up, and put the needs of the church before their own.

Relational Wisdom
Leaders should be approachable, trustworthy, and able to navigate conflict with grace and truth.

Commitment to the Church
Active participation in worship, ministry, and community life is essential. Leaders should be rooted in our church family and invested in its growth.

Moral and Ethical Character
We expect leaders to model honesty, accountability, and respect — both inside and outside the church.

Spiritual Maturity
Leaders should be growing in prayer, Scripture, and discernment, able to guide others with wisdom and compassion.

Three Fold Communion: A Full-Hearted Experience

At First Brethren Church, The Three Fold Communion is a special celebration of remembrance which includes communion but it’s also a full experience of remembering, serving, and celebrating together.

Foot washing — *A Symbol of Humble Service*
Just like Jesus washed His disciples’ feet in John 13, we wash one another’s feet as a way of saying:  I’m here to serve. I’m here to forgive. I’m walking with you. We provide separate  rooms for women, men and families for this.

The Love Feast — *A Shared Meal of Fellowship*
We sit down for a simple meal together — not just to eat, but to connect.
It’s a taste of the future: the Marriage Supper of the Lamb, where all believers will feast in God’s kingdom. It’s about community,

*A Memorial of Christ’s Sacrifice*
We end with the traditional elements: bread and juice (or wine), representing Jesus’ body and blood.  It’s our way of saying:
Thank You, Jesus. You gave everything. We remember.

Becoming a Member of First Brethren Church

- Be considered for *leadership roles**yourself — including serving as a *Deacon*, *Administrative Board Member*, or other ministry positions, based on congregational affirmation and spiritual readiness

Your voice matters. Membership gives you a seat at the table — not just spiritually, but practically.

The Path to Membership

Serving Through Volunteering

At First Brethren Church, we believe that service is one of the most powerful ways to live out our faith. Volunteering isn’t just about filling a role — it’s about making a difference, building relationships, and reflecting Christ’s love in everyday life. You do not need to be a Member to volunteer.

Ways to Serve Within the Church

- **Prayer & Care Team**
Visit shut-ins, pray for needs, or offer encouragement to those going through hard times.

- **Leadership Roles**
Members may be nominated to serve as Deacons, Board Members, or ministry leads — helping guide the church with wisdom and grace.

🌾 Serving in the Community
- **Local Outreach**
Partner with food banks, shelters, or schools to meet practical needs in Williams County.

- **Farm & Rural Support**
Offer help to neighbors during harvest, emergencies, or times of illness — a simple act of kindness goes a long way.

- **Events & Fundraisers**
Volunteer at community events, parades, or church-hosted gatherings that bring people together.

- **Faith in Action**
Share your gifts — whether it’s cooking, carpentry, organizing, or storytelling — to bless others and build bridges.

Whether you have one hour a week or a whole season to give, there’s a place for you to serve. Volunteering is how we grow together, care for one another, and shine God’s light in Bryan and beyond.

💝 Giving at First Brethren Church

Giving is an act of worship — a way to honor God, support His work, and invest in the life of the church and community. At First Brethren Church, we’re grateful for every gift, large or small, and we offer two simple ways to give:

🪙 In-Person Giving
During our worship services, we pass the **offering plate** as a time of reflection and gratitude. It’s a quiet moment to give back, support ministry needs, and participate in the shared mission of our Church.

🎯 Designated Giving

At First Brethren Church, we offer the option of designated giving — allowing you to direct your financial gift toward a specific ministry, project, or need that’s close to your heart.  Whether it’s missions, youth programs, building improvements, or benevolence, simply note your designation on your check, envelope, or in the memo line when giving online through Tithe.ly.

Every designated gift is honored with care and used solely for its intended purpose. It’s one more way to give with purpose — and partner in the work God is doing through our Church.

🌐 Online Giving with Tithe.ly
For those who prefer digital convenience, you can give securely online through **Tithe.ly** — anytime, from anywhere.
It’s fast, safe, and allows you to:
- Make one-time or recurring gifts
- Choose specific funds or ministries to support
- Track your giving history

Whether you give in person or online, your generosity helps us share the Gospel, care for our neighbors, and maintain a welcoming space for worship and fellowship
